Design category C: A boat with a design category C is considered to have been designed to operate with winds up to force 6 on the Beaufort scale and with the corresponding waves (quite high up to two metres, please see the note below). Such conditions can be found in moderate weather conditions during coastal sailing, in estuaries and unsheltered inland waterways.
Design category D: A boat with a design category D is considered to have been designed to operate with winds up to force 4 on the Beaufort scale and with the corresponding waves (with a maximum intermittent height of 0.5 metres, please see the note below). Such conditions can be found in good weather conditions during sheltered coastal sailing and in sheltered inland waterways.
